New Years Blog Hop–What’s Your Goal?

First and foremost, Happy New Year!

All right, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about goals for the new year. Yes, goals. A friend of mine recently pointed out that resolutions were abandoned by the tenth of January, so first on my list is:

1. Not making any New Years Resolutions, only goals I’d like to accomplish in 2013

2. Starting with, I wil do everything in my power to remember to write 2013 instead of 2012.

3. I will do what I can to avoid getting stuck in a ball gown.

4. I will strive to be the best mother I can be by outsmarting my kids.

5. Find a public place to go and write from time to time where I won’t run into an old flame, a man (or woman) who wishes to discuss their bowel issues with me, a very tearful break up or a pimp.

6. Fingers and doors don’t go together any better than fingers and clamshell packages, enough said.

7. Always be prepared for photo opportunities, you just never know when it’s prime picture-taking time–especially at 5am on Black Friday.

8. I will declare loudly and for all to hear (if they so ask) that I am an adult entertainer.

9. It might be hard, but I’ll stay married to Bob even if he loses his wallet, or cellphone and keys–constantly, and feels it’s his duty to write an appeal to my readers in an effort to start an upheaval. (I’ll let you all in on a little secret here, it’s not because he was kind enough to offer me a male perspective on Her Secondhand Groom, then again for Her Imperfect Groom, and then let’s not forget the advice he offerd on His Yankee Bride . No, the real reason is he might be a bit forgetful or a tad overly critical at times, but I can’t doubt that he loves me. Not only did he build me a Kissing Stool last year for Christmas and let me push him over in his kayak last summer, nor is it because we rode 150 miles together on a tandem bicycle — not without a little “learning to adjust” , but quite simply because he’s one of the most supportive people of me and together we’re still living our love song. Not to mention I love him something fierce or I wouldn’t have carried a giant sponge halfway across the country for him.)

10. I will attempt, no I will have just as much fun blogging and chatting it up with all of you in 2013 as I did in 2012. (See, I just kept goal 1 already, I’m on a roll!)

So now I ask for a chance to win a signed paperback from my backlist, What are your goals for 2013?

[This is post part of the New Years Blog Hop! So be sure to answer–with an email address if you wish to be entered into the Grand Prize drawing of a Kindle Fire/Nook Tablet, a $300 gift card to Amazon or Barnes & Noble, or a giant box of swag!

  1. Great goals Rose! Thanks for a look back at some of the great posts from the year… I remembered most and enjoyed rereading several. Bob’s appearances are so funny. You guys should consider giving him a regular “gig”. Like a once a month guest post from Bob on what it’s like to live with an author. I bet he’d have some entertaining, I mean interesting, insights.
Ok, aside from my usual “goal” to shed the post baby pounds (when your youngest turns four I’m pretty sure you can’t still call it “post baby pounds”…) but instead of focussing on getting thin, I intend to be healthy. I’m not going to log hours at the gym but I will have more dance offs with my kids and their Xbox… Take the bicycle to the library instead of the motorcycle. Small changes… But make them stick.

    1. Crap! I just realized I’d forgotten to make one of my goals to always remember to pack an extra pair of pajamas (as they could be my only set) whenever I went to writers’ conferences. Otherwise, I’m glad you had a fun look back at my year of shame.

Bob would probably love to make an appearance, unfortunately I might die of embarrassment if he does. He tends to tell very personal things…things that would shame me beyond all measure like how much time I spend writing, how I’ve asked him to help me do research that is not digging for old facts, what he thinks of my personal library of books (it could rival Liberty’s, except with history tomes, not books on manners). The list is endless, but I’ll see what I can do to get him to stop by again.

I recently found this list of 100 weight loss tips, many of which I plan to incorporate into my own lifestyle: drink a glass of water when you think you’re hungry and see if that stops the feeling, fidget or kick/bounce your legs when sitting helps to keep you moving and burning calories, however few it might be, eat an apple before dinner, fix your plate, then put the extras away before eating so you’re not tempted to take seconds, my weakness recently seems to be soda…gotta say fare the well to that though, focus on inches lost and not pounds because you’ll gain some weight by doing things because you’ll build muscle, but that’s lean so your inches will decrease even if your weight doesn’t appear to be going down. Good luck (oh and I sooo think you can claim your extra weight as post baby pounds, my youngest will be six this year and I’m still claiming them!)

      1. what is wrong with having a library full of history tomes? Those are like the best hings in the world to have in a library, although I am a history geek so take that for what it’s worth.

      2. Well, I have some really weird ones. Not just the traditional, British History or The United States–a Story of Bravery. I might have to share a few titles in a post soon…

      3. Here are a few you might like..first off never say or think diet..it limits you and makes you feel bad …say eating healthier. Never say you can’t have anyhting..this sabatogues you and makes you over do once you “cheat”. In stead say you can have anyhting you want.but stick to the 3 bite rule…and if you think about it..anything after 3 bites you really arent tasting any more..try it and see. Also..drink warm water, tea or something warm a half hour before eating..you will feel full faster. Use a smaller plate so you dont feel deprived but eat smaller portions…if you are craving something figur out what in your diet you are lacking that this craving would fill and try to fill it a healthier way….go one week with barely any salt…then when you can go back youd be surprised how little will satisfy you…keep a pot of healthy veggie soup on hand..it is great for a quick snack or small meal and full of energy..you do NOT have to have breakfast foods for breakfast..you can have other things,,in winter it is fun to start with a hot bowl of soup or beans and a warm roll…and will give you more energy…hope you like these…peach_hugs@yahoo.com

      4. Thanks for adding to the list, Toni. I’d never heard of the warm water trick, nor thought about that after only three bites the new flavor is gone anyway. Something to think about. Thanks.

  2. I can’t take credit for this because a friend of mine actually wrote it, but it sums up exactly how I feel about the new year:

“This year, I resolve to stop stressing so much about things I can’t fix; to work extra hard to fix the things I can; to live simply and joyfully; and most of all, to remember that each day I am on this earth with my family and friends is a gift from God, and to live in a way that reflects my knowledge of that.” –KTR

    jhclancy@bellsouth.net

    1. I love this. I stress WAY too much about things I have absolutely no control over, missing opportunities I could take instead, especially those with friends. Thanks for stealing and posting this, Heather. It sums up what my real goals should be.

  3. I love your goals! This is a difficult one for me.
I have a major one this year. To be more patient!
As a homeschooling mom it has been a stressful 2012 for me. I had so many things happen.
My focus will be on my kids and husband. We have been together for 15 yrs now and the last year just seemed to go by in a flash with too many missed opportunities for making lasting memories…
2013 will be our year to make great memories for our kids and ourselves.

    1. I didn’t realize you home schooled, Donette! I’m not sure I could do that, so my hat is definitely off to you and all the hard work you do. I, too, could use a huge helping of patience this year.

*Here’s to hoping you have more time to slow down and enjoy time with your husband and kids!*

  4. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
I have two real goals this year. The first one is that after spending last year learning to live my life with chronic pain that this year I will learn to not only keep taking care of my boys and myself but also be able to take better care of my house.

My second goal is to save up some money so that I can actually take a “mommy” vacation this year. It’s been two years and this mom is in serious need of a vacation. My husband’s already got the time off for me to do this, so hopefully I can make it happen.

    ericswifey@aol.com

  5. I would like to work out more. Not really to lose weight, but to get in better shape. And it would be nice to not get out of breath when walking up a few flights of stairs.

    1. And it would be nice to not get out of breath when walking up a few flights of stairs.

I used to love to take the stairs, run up and down them all the time. Now I hate it. And for the same reason.

  6. I decided that this year I would make no resolutions that I couldn’t enjoy. I will listen to audiobooks while I walk on my treadmill, clean my house, while i work since i am allowed to and cook my healthy meals. All in all I chose to just be happy no matter what I must do. My question to you Rose is when will your books come out on audio?

      1. So did you mean Susan Haworth instead of Susan Hayworth. That Y makes a big difference…I assumed that I wasn’t the one.

      2. Yes, yes, I did. I wrote that post at 1am on Christmas morning and had it scheduled. I must have been too tired and didn’t catch that autocorrect changed the spelling. My apologies. (I did change it now, though.)

      3. YEAH….It is wonderful..Thank you so much! Please let me know where to send my selection…Happy New Year!!!! PS..I am a Bob fan too!!

  7. My goals, better my hubby & my goal is to finish fixing what needs done in our house so we can sell it to move closer to work….we both travel about 45 miles one way. Other goals: to save money any way we can…to be able to see our grandchildren more (they live in another state so time off and traveling can be challenging).

    1. Brenda, I wish you all the best with this. We live about 40 minutes (each way) from where our kids go to school, so I know all about the commute. As for seeing your grandchildren more, I’m sure they’d like that, too.

  8. My goals include the following:
    1) Volunteer more
    2) one act of kindness per day at minimum
    3) get A-‘s and above in all my courses
    4) land an entry level job at the bank (I need to get my foot in the door, I already had one interview at a major bank and I am awaiting their call)
    5) Keep my room cleaner
    6) Eat healthier and spend less on fast food ( I need to stop being lazy and make my lunch more often, fast food is overpriced and really a waste of money unless one is buying it once in a while/ occasionally)
    7) Make more time for reading
    8) Stop being lazy and stop procrastinating
    9) Don’t sleep for more than 8 hours a day
    10) Keep my car cleaner
    11) Manage my time better (utilize an agenda and wear that watch I got for my birthday in order to be more punctual and organized)
    12) Continue to be focused on ongoing self-improvement

    1. We all need a little self-improvement! You’re right, fast food is expensive and can be a waste of money when you think of how much you could have saved by making the meal yourself. Amen, to #7.

  9. *grin* As a relative newcomer to the blog, I’d love to have more “Bob”. 😀 I just read the naming post, that was awesome.

My goals this year are pretty straight forward : Finish school (although this may not be done til 2014, we shall see), Find a job, work out (hey, I actually bought a gym membership and started using it.. I’m not entirely kidding when I mention this may be a sign of the Apocalypse) and be more social.

The last one is honestly the hardest and most challenging. We shall see how it goes. (Well, finding a job too, but that has other factors rather than just me at play)

  10. HI Rose!

My husband and I have a wonderful but difficult goal for the New Year which is to sell our home so we can move closer to our grandchildren.

We’ve decided that even though it means we will probably not get what we could have from selling our home because of the economic downturn that we will instead find new jobs when we move instead of retiring like we had planned. Being there near them so they really know us instead of seeing them only once a year is the best present we could ever receive.

After all there are there are grandchildren waiting to learn how to bate a hook and go fishing with granddad, cookies to be made for snacks and baseball games and ballet to be watched in awe by grandparents who will be clapping in their seats and hopefully being there years from now as they walk across the stage at their High School graduations.

  11. My goals for 2013 are:
    1) Get through this coming college school semester without having a break down.
    2) Take my brothers to the movies more often.
    3) Go see the Hobbit in theaters.
    4) And catch up on all the reading i want to do.
    booklover360(at)gmail(dot)com

  12. My main goal is to write and publish 4-5 books. My secondary goal is to go on summer vacation with the kids so we can build memories as a family. 😀

I hope you can write in public without someone odd coming up to you to talk. There must be a friendly vibe about you that makes people want to tell you things no one wants to know. lol

    1. Memories…pressed between the pages…

(Just be glad I’m not really singing!)

For our family, summer trips are some of the best memories we’ve made together. All the best with it!

    1. Amen! We recently moved and I tossed tons of stuff out, but it still feels like I’ve got too much. I might actually spring clean this year…good gracious, I am not looking forward to it, but I need to do it for sure.

  13. Thanks so much for a great beginning to a New Year. For this year I need to find a job since I’m graduating college this Spring, so yup.

    kp_kazamei(at)yahoo(dot)com

  14. Hi, Rose!

Thank you for sharing your goals! I loved #9. ^_^

My reading goal is to hit 150 books this year. I tried in 2012 and was about 10 books short — so I’m starting my year with a reading plan. ^_^

My personal goal is to lose the last 8 pounds that I had gained in the last 7 years — I had a health scare the last part of the year and that woke me up. We’ve made changes to how we live and I’m glad that it has equated to my losing some weight. So now I just have 8 to go.

Thank you for the great giveaway!

    Here’s to a wonder-filled 2013 for all of us!

    – Tin (khriscc at yahoo dot com)

    1. Good luck with your goal of 150 books this year.

I know health problems are never fun or what anyone wants, but I’m glad something positive came of it and I wish you the best as you try to shed those last eight pounds.

I’m glad you liked #9, by the way. I think my husband and I have too much fun sometimes.

  15. One of my first goals this year is try one of your books! I just discovered you today! I can’t wait! Another one of my goals for the new year is to finally get a job after 9 years of college and over a year of applying to jobs. Also I want my upcoming wedding to go well since my fiance’s family and my maid of honor sister are all negative and could care less about the whole affair :…( I’ve waited over 8 years to get married to my fiance so like it or not it’s going to happen and we are going to have a happily ever after ending; just like you say all your books end up 😀

I hope you and your family have a great New Years!

    Ash ( ashwayvpa@aim.com)

  16. I had to click on all the links because I had missed some of these posts. I love the one about the different things that kept happening to you when you tried to write in a public place.

    Goals:

    1. Keep my diabetes under control and maybe (fingers crossed) even get off my insulin.

    2. Publish 3 books.

    3. Develop a marketing plan.

    lauralynnelliott@yahoo.com

  17. I have 2 main goals for 2013…the first is to be there and help people out more. Not just friends and family but everyone. I dont want to be that person that looks the other way and just goes on with my own way. I also want to spend more time with my kids. They are young adults now and have their own lives and i feel that i havent made as much of an efffort as i should to spend time with them and not let us glide apart. Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing your heart and your soul with us through your books for another year!

    angelheart618@gmail.com

  18. My main goals are to walk and stand longer than 5 mins..recovery isn’t as fun as some think…and to spend more time doing things with my teen son that he likes.i want to try doing that jar too , where you put things i it that are good , LOLs, goals met, etc
I really enjoyed what you wrote, maybe you should write a small book about your past year with inserts from Bob too…lol..Id buy it,smilz
Hope you have wonderful year full of warm memeories, laughter and good health
    peach_hugs@yahoo.com

    1. Keep working at it. Recovery of any kind isn’t fun, but just keep working at it.

      I’ve started the jar, too!

I’ve considered writing a book about Bob (of the non-fiction variety since I put little quirks about him all over in my novels as it is). But alas, I think you might be the only one who’d want to read it (besides me–and his mom of course).

  19. Thanks so much for the chance to win. It’s a great way to start the year.

No major goals beyond reading a lot (let’s go 50 books!) and staying active (jog, jog!), but I hope you have a great year 🙂

    Thanks again!

    hisboywonder(at)gmail(dot)com

    1. Jog is a cuss word to me. Probably because my husband tells me I don’t know the difference between running and jogging and it just flat wears me out! LOL

50 books is still a lot of books so good luck!

  20. My goal is to complete my reading challenges I signed up for and knock down a bit of TBR list.

    vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com

  21. Thanks for being part of the hop… My new years goal is to lose 10 more lbs and have an accounting job by October when I graduate College finally. And to have more me time at least once a month a me day(spa, lunch with ladies, wine&bubbles)

    j.m.platt83@gmail.com

  22. This is the first year where I will be setting goals instead of resolutions; I always fail at my resolutions within a matter of a day anyway!

    1. To read at least 160 books this coming year including re-reads and the 15452151515454875415 books I’ve won or been sent to review that always get put on the back burner as I always get sidetracked by something else. In fact, I still owe you a review…*sigh*

    2. To read the entire bible from cover to cover by reading at least 4 chapters a week, if not more. Right now I’m stuck in Exodus and haven’t read more than 3 chapters this week as I found it quite…dull. And that makes me feel ashamed to admit. I’m also considering a personal spiritual blog.

    3. To work at eating healthier…I need to drop at least fifty pounds to be able to have knee surgery and that’s a bit hard to do when exercise is mostly out of the question {though I have that bouncing leg thing down pat…I have restless leg syndrome and they never seem to stop moving!}.

    4. To not take on too much. I know my limits and try to push myself way past the norm and end up getting burned or way too frustrated. Instead of trying to participate in every blog tour out there I plan on taking part in only ones with authors that I’ve worked with before or whose books have really caught my eye and I can’t picture not being able to read their book. It’s been a rarity for me to read something for my own pleasure {well, your books were all for my own pleasure, but I think we’ve covered that} and not feel obligated to review every single book…I want my OCD self to realize not every book needs to be reviewed; it’s okay to read one and be happy that I read it.

    WhisperinAngel@Gmail.Com

    1. 1. That’s a lot of books to read/review.
      2. Exodus is a hard book, but I struggled more with Numbers (just what you wanted to hear, right?)
      3. This is a must for me, too–eating healthier.
      4. I have a tendency to do this, too, not have a need to review every book I read, but take on too much. Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy.

  23. I enjoyed your goals. Blog postings from Bob would be fun for us to read but I understand how you feel. I wouldn’t want my hubby to write a blog about me.

Managing my time better. That would really help my stress and energy level. I can feel drained just thinking about all I need to do in a short amount of time especially if it’s something I don’t want to do…like clean my house.

    asdidonato77@yahoo.com

    1. LOL Nobody wants their husband to write things about them. I can only imagine what he’d say–and that’s bad enough.

Managing my time effectively is something I struggle to do sometimes, too.

  24. to obtain a full time teaching position for 2013

Thanks for the great hop and Happy 2013
    zenfoxflowerATyahooDOTcom

  25. My major goal is to get our house sold by spring so hubby and I can do our dream of RVing. It is so close to happening, we have a buyer so I have my fingers crossed that her loan goes through and we can move on to the next stage of our lives. Wishing you success in reaching all your goals for this year.

    mrsqueentutt@gmail.com

    1. Oh Cynthia, I always thought it was teens who thought their parents were stupid, not so. My 5 & 7 year old do, too, apparently. You wouldn’t believe the stuff they try to do. I just gotta stay one step ahead!

  26. Happy New Year!

My resolution is to spend more time on myself. I spread myself to thin. Kids included 😉

    ~*Drea*~
    dreabecraft(@)aol.com

  27. My goal this year is to lose weight by avoiding fast foods so that I can get rid of PCOS from which I’m suffering for several years now.

Happy New Year to you and your family.

    P.S. I’m a Bob’s fan too!

    1. Just seeing a fast food restaurant makes me gain weight–at least that’s my excuse for needing to lose weight. I tell Bob I’d be thin if I’d stop having to drive past the pizza parlor. LOL

  28. To read over 150 books this year.
Thank you for participating in the New Year Blog Hop!
    Best Wishes in 2013
    uilani25 (at) hotmail (dot) com

  29. My goal for 2013 is to be more active. I didn’t follow through on my 2012’s.

    wildnmild4u at yahoo dot com

  30. my only goal is to get through the next week, anything past that can wait till time catches up (again, to get through the next week) – regnod(at)yahoo(d0t)com

  31. I love your goals They really made me giggle!! I might have to steal a few!
    My goals:
1 – read 365 books. I have set a book a day challenge for my Goodreads and am trying to also do a quick review for each book there and on Tumblr
2- read a greater variety of books. I have recently been on quite a smut kick!! I need to mix it up a bit more.
3- i will read those books i get for free everyday on Amazon. So, many books I want to read but for some reason never get around to. This will also help my pitiful budget!
4 – I will attend a book conference this year! I want to meet some of my fav smutty authors!! I will most likely go all fangirl on them! And I am going to take my Gran cause she loves reading too! And she is rather feisty so she should make things interesting!
Thanks for doing the hop!! You are one of the new authors I found to stalk…um follow on Goodreads!!

    grapeapril75(AT)gmail(DOT)com

    1. 365 book?! Wow. I’ve only ever seen one goal higher than that (400). I am in awe of those of you who can read so quickly–and review?!

LOL on #3, I think we all have the guilty habit of stockpiling free books, even if they’re nothing we’d read otherwise.

What about some of your favorite non smutty authors (#4)? *grins* Romantic Times Convention is a GREAT place to meet literally 100s of authors, many of which you’ve undoubtedly heard of. It’s being held in Kansas City this year.

You are one of the new authors I found to stalk…um follow on Goodreads!! LOL

  32. I really liked your goals …lol Here are just a few of mine

I have set some goals this year
    1. Quit smoking by 2014
    2. Spend more quality time with family & friends
    3. Finally finish my 1st novel
    Happy New Year

    missie25524 (at) netzero (dot) com

  33. I’ve never made resolutions, but I have a short-term goal to finish editing my current novel. It’s actually my ninth book, but I guess I’ve always been intimidated by the prospect of getting my work published. (I don’t want to self-publish unless it’s my last option.) But not this year. I’m going to go for it, because heck, I’ve been telling stories and writing since I was six.

  34. Hi! Happy New Years! Hmm. I dont really make new year resolutions. I kinda just take it one day at a time and go from there. Thanks for the awesome hop and all the giveaways! This is so fun! I love these hops! I always meet new authors, reconnect with old ones and my TBR list grows by leaps and bounds! Thank you!! Have a great day! Best wishes and many blessings to you!
    shadowluvs2read(at)gmail(dot)com

  35. Happy New Year! My New Years traditions are easy, I spend time with my family and friends. I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year. My resolutions this year is as always to loose a few pounds and spend a little more time with my family.

    Ifightforlove36@gmail.com

  36. I’d like to be more patient with my family, save money, and be healthier. Thank you for your giveaway!
